One of the nicest people in music is Alex Ellis, Our Man in the Field. His music is just as good. I’ve been patiently waiting to share the video of his latest single, a reworking of one of the best songs from his last album. He has new music coming up and I can’t wait…
But the single and indeed the album Company of Strangers at Bandcamp…
And a couple of singles that have come my way recently.

ogers – Love & Distance
I always worry when press talks more about the guests than the artists, Jamie Lawson and Robben Ford, in this case. But the songwriting and singing more than hold their own. Ford (I’m guessing) plays a brief solo, but Rogers owns her song. The album that this song comes from, Criminal Heart popped into the inbox this week and will get a listen before its release in September. Rogers says she “remains, by choice, completely independent.” And that’s great. Her website is here Try some of her earlier music at Spotify as well. She gigs mostly around Surrey with a side trip to Cornwall coming up. She’s on the list to see when she lands locally though.
Celestial North – The Nature of Light
This one passed me by when it was released in June. In a world of paint by numbers EDM and similar, this is a fresh vibrant dream pop song that you should seek out on Bandcamp. It’s grown on me this week with its harp sounds floating behind an ethereal voice. “She calls it Viking Dreamfolk to dance and soar to” Try it here and buy it at Bandcamp
