And now you find yourself in ’22

In the end I didn’t write up much on the end of 2021. My round up of what i did at Americana UK is here, but it just felt like a time to look forward.
That doesn’t mean there haven’t been some great albums out this year. The best however are rooted in artists’ responses to the Pandemic and it’s fall out.

Let’s not go there…

With all the year stuff I mean. This is a virus free zone, and I'm happy in my little bubble (damn nearly mentioned it there)... The last couple of weeks of the year were stupid busy for work, so I've not done a proper end of year review, again. I think I gave the...

Keep right on ’til the end of the year.

2019 has come and gone, and with it music releases that I found and missed. As usual this is about the stuff I picked up on this year rather then what was actually released in 2019.  Lonely Robot: John Mitchell's trilogy concluded this year with 'Under Stars'...

And so we face… 2019

2018 has been a bit of a year, and I have found myself listening to familiar music rather than plunging into new, challenging sounds. Jazz reappeared on my radar, but as the posts on Jazz were the least read I have written here you may not be bothered about that. A...

It’s been a year since…

Time for an end of the year round up, and it's also a year since I started the blog. Thank you for reading, and it seems people are (if I believe Google's figures), so what have I discovered in 2017, in case you care. Disappointment of the year... Elbow -...

When my Americana UK colleague Paul Kerr posted on the dreaded socials about the 40th Anniversary edition of ‘The Days of Wine and Roses’ late in 2023, I needed no persuading to invest in my third copy of the album with its lovely book and intriguing extras. The hope...

We’ve got five years, what a surprise!

No I'm not going to start singing Bowie, but it is 5 years since I started my CD store on Discogs. I’ve sold nearly 19,500 discs in that time, and I thought it would be interesting to work out who the most popular artists have been over the 5 years. This is of course...

Album review: Rain Parade – “Crashing Dream” deluxe edition

Having reviewed the 40th anniversary reissue of “Emergency Third Rail Power Trip” over at Americana UK last December I had rediscovered my love for all things Paisley Underground. So, the notice about this issue of “Crashing Dream” dropping into my inbox was cause for...

So that didn’t go according to plan…

Having made all sorts of promises about featuring lots of exciting things from the “big box of discs” I promptly had the biggest down spike in M.E. for 10 years. That meant that it was triage time and doing enough to keep earning a living became the priority and...

Yet more Power Pop…

I’ve been listening to the audiobook of Go All The Way: A Literary Appreciation of Power Pop. Edited by Paul Myers and S. W. Lauden it’s a mine of information and opinion. With What is Power Pop being almost as common a question as What is Americana, and just as...
