2024 – Thank goodness that’s over…

by | Dec 13, 2024 | Music discovery | 0 comments

Like many people 2024 has not been the best of years in the real world here, so music has been the thing to keep the spirits up when all else was going to pieces

As much of my listening this year has been old stuff (courtesy of the CDs that passed through the shop) getting an end of year round up sorted was a challenge. But prompted by my friend Ken reading aloud form the Guardian’s best 50 albums of the year, which was mostly the usual fashion following fodder I though the least I could do was provide an alternative list that features some of the stuff that either isn’t cool enough or just dipped under the radar. A late entry was Grandaddy’s album which our editor at Americana UK listed as his favourite, despite having nearly zero press presence.

So in no particular order, the 10 records from 2024 that you should seek out are…

  • The Cleansing – Peter Perrett
  • Woodland – Gillian Welch & David Rawlings
  • Blu Wav – Grandaddy
  • V – Black Country Communion
  • Reservoir – Brown Horse
  • With All The Other Ghosts – Boulder Fields
  • Audio Vertigo – Elbow
  • To be Clear – Mia Kelly
  • You Are Not a Stranger Here – Danny and the Champions of the World
  • The Last Flight – Public Service Broadcasting

My annual musings for Americana UK are here Roll on 2025…

We’ve got five years, what a surprise!

No I'm not going to start singing Bowie, but it is 5 years since I started my CD store on Discogs. I’ve sold nearly 19,500 discs in that time, and I thought it would be interesting to work out who the most popular artists have been over the 5 years. This is of course...

Album review: Rain Parade – “Crashing Dream” deluxe edition
